Here in NY, 40,000 people are making their way to Staten Island right now to run the marathon. Good luck to everyone running. I'll be watching the festivities on TV from the comfort of my couch. Ran 20 yesterday so I'm taking the day off. I'm allowing myself more rest days as the race gets closer. I have a tendency towards overtraining that I need to rein in or I'll get injured.
That last 20 miler was tough yesterday. No obvious pain anywhere, just general pain everywhere. I was slightly faster than last week, averaging 8:53 per mile. If I can maintain that over the last 10k, then I'll have a sub-4 hour finish in Philadelphia in three weeks. We'll see.

Good luck on the quest to break four! Don't beat yourself up though given all the variables you can't control such as the weather conditions that day.
ReplyDeleteSee you at Philadelphia! I watched the NYC Marathon from the first medical aid station (volunteer)at mile 3. Great fun. Can't wait for my first marathon in a few weeks.
ReplyDeleteMarkey & Anon,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words. Anon, good luck! My last 26.2 race was a while ago so I'm approaching this with a beginners mind. I'm open to the possibility that I will crash and burn. Hopefully not. Ran the philly 1/2 last year and it was COLD. Everyone slipping at the water stops because they froze over into giant ice rinks. Great fun though. Hopefully it will be a bit warmer this year.M
Wow-those water stops sound scary. I know Philly is a bit more south than places like Boston and NYC, but it still seems to be late in the calendar. The good news is that cold is much better than hot and muggy-you can layer up and remove a layer if you get hot.
ReplyDeleteTrue. The starting temperature of last year's race was 17F with the wind chill. I kept everything on until the finish, then I promptly became border line hyperthermic. This year I'll plan better for chilly weather, although from what I read after the race, the low temps were kind of exceptional.
